Dr. Hawthorne Elderberry, the apothecary badger of Bramblewick

Dr. Hawthorne Elderberry

The Apothecary Badger

Dr. Hawthorne Elderberry runs the village apothecary in Bramblewick. He blends soothing salves, curious tinctures, and potions from plants and treasures found in the woods.

If you need a tonic, a bandage, or gentle advice, Dr. Hawthorne is the badger to see.

Sir Hipidy Hopsalot

The Baker

Sir Hipidy Hopsalot is Bramblewick’s most inventive baker. From Shoefly Pie to Dragonfly Tarts, his treats are always made with care and a dash of pondside charm.

When he’s not in the kitchen, Sir Hipidy can be found collecting the freshest bugs and berries—and the occasional ingredient that hops by.

Stop by his bakery and there’s always something deliciously unexpected bubbling in the oven.

Madame Leilani Malodorous, the perfumer of Bramblewick

Madame Leilani Malodorous

The Perfumer

Madame Leilani Malodorous is Bramblewick’s perfumer, creating fragrances from flowers, herbs, and woods gathered around the village.

With impeccable taste and an eye for elegance, she knows exactly how to blend a scent for every occasion.

And being a skunk, Madame Leilani does happen to possess one rather powerful built-in spray of her own.

Acornelius Twitch

The Delivery Squirrel

Rain, shine, wind, or falling acorns, Acornelius Twitch makes sure every parcel in Bramblewick reaches the right doorstep… eventually.

He knows every cottage, shortcut, stepping-stone, and squirrel-sized path in the village, and he takes his deliveries very seriously.

If you hear a bicycle bell, a startled “COMING THROUGH!”, and then a suspicious crash near the village square, don’t worry. That’s probably just Acornelius making excellent time.

Brie Colbyshire, the dairy mouse of Bramblewick

Brie Colbyshire

The Dairy Mouse

Brie Colbyshire may be small, but she runs one of Bramblewick’s busiest little shops: Mouse Hollow Dairy Shoppe.

She makes delicious cheeses and her famous hand-pulled string cheese with plenty of care, patience, and a whole lot of heart.

Brie’s favorite reminder is simple: “Good things come in small packages!”

Mr. Prickly Schneider

The Tailor

Mr. Prickly Schneider is Bramblewick’s careful little tailor, surrounded by bolts of cloth, spools of thread, and more buttons than anyone could reasonably count.

From tiny waistcoats to handsome woodland coats, he believes every stitch deserves patience, precision, and just the right finishing touch.

His best advice? “Measure twice, stitch with care… and mind the quills!”

Mr. Prickly Schneider, the tailor of Bramblewick
Mr. Jarli Hootington, the barn owl postmaster of Bramblewick

Mr. Jarli Hootington

The Barn Owl Postmaster

Mr. Jarli Hootington takes the mail very seriously. From his cozy post office in the heart of Bramblewick, he sorts letters, stamps parcels, and makes certain every message reaches the right paws, claws, or wings.

With extraordinary hearing and enormous eyes, very little escapes his attention—not even a mouse tiptoeing past the parcel counter after closing time.

Jarli is polite, punctual, and famously quiet while he works… most of the time. If you hear a blood-curdling scream from the post office after dark, don’t worry. That’s probably just Jarli announcing that the late mail has arrived.

Mr. Castor Peltington

The Beaver Carpenter

Mr. Castor Peltington keeps his workshop beside the stream, where the tap of a hammer and the curl of fresh wood shavings usually mean something useful is taking shape.

Whether Bramblewick needs a wobbly chair steadied, a garden gate repaired, or a brand-new bridge strong enough for the whole village, Castor believes a good job is worth doing properly.

And when an especially stubborn piece of lumber refuses to cooperate, well… it helps to be a carpenter who arrived with his own pair of heavy-duty wood-working teeth.

Mrs. Jillian Dingleberry, the opossum innkeeper of Bramblewick, with her babies

Mrs. Jillian Dingleberry

The Opossum Innkeeper

Mrs. Jillian Dingleberry keeps Bramblewick’s coziest little inn running with warm tea, fluffy towels, and the remarkable ability to make every traveler feel as though they were expected all along.

She can usually find a spare blanket, an extra biscuit, or one more place at the table—even while several tiny opossums are riding on her shoulders, peeking from her apron, or quietly relocating things she was certain she had just put away.

At the Bramblewick Inn, Jillian has only one real rule: there’s always room for one more. Finding the correct room key, however, may take a little longer.

Mr. Finsworth

The Fisherman & Tackle-Shop Keeper

Mr. Finsworth keeps Bramblewick’s tackle shop stocked with rods, reels, hooks, flies, and nearly everything a woodland angler could need for a quiet afternoon beside the creek.

Of course, most customers discover that buying fishing gear is only half the visit. Finsworth is always ready with a story about the one that got away, the one that nearly got away, and the one so enormous that nobody else seems to remember seeing it.

Ask him how big that last fish really was and he’ll spread his paws a little farther apart every time. Funny how fish keep growing long after they’ve left the water.

Mr. Finsworth, the fisherman and tackle-shop keeper of Bramblewick
Mr. Bartram Corvina, proprietor of Crow’s Curiosities in Bramblewick

Mr. Bartram Corvina

The Curiosity Shop Proprietor

Mr. Bartram Corvina presides over Crow’s Curiosities, a wonderfully crowded little shop where old keys, pocket watches, peculiar bottles, forgotten trinkets, and treasures of uncertain purpose seem to gather all by themselves.

Bartram has an excellent eye for anything unusual—and an even better eye for anything shiny. He insists every object in his shop has a story, although whether the story belonged to the object before Bartram acquired it is sometimes difficult to determine.

Visitors are welcome to browse as long as they like. Just keep an eye on your buttons, buckles, and particularly handsome cufflinks. Bartram certainly will.

Professor Monax Shadeaux

Headmaster of The Burrow Academy

Professor Monax Shadeaux rings the school bell each morning at The Burrow Academy, where young Bramblewick minds are encouraged to ask questions, explore the village, and discover that the best lessons do not always fit neatly inside a classroom.

He has an answer—or at least a book—for nearly everything, from beetles and burrows to plants, streams, and woodland history. Curiosity is always welcome in Professor Shadeaux’s classroom, and mistakes are simply discoveries that have not finished happening yet.

There is, however, one subject best avoided. Ask whether he can predict the weather and Professor Shadeaux will adjust his spectacles and remind you, very firmly, that he is an educator… not a weather instrument.

Professor Monax Shadeaux, headmaster of The Burrow Academy in Bramblewick
Mr. Milton Burrows of Bramblewick

Mr. Milton Burrows

Bramblewick Resident

Mr. Milton Burrows lives in a cozy burrow beneath Bramblewick, where familiar tunnels, well-loved belongings, and a properly prepared tea tray make everything feel just right.

Milton may not see very well, but he knows his home by touch, smell, and memory—and he is always prepared for whatever the day might bring.

Ask him for something useful and there is an excellent chance he has saved one somewhere “just in case.” Finding his favorite teacup, however, is another matter entirely.

Mrs. Erina Pinnington

Proprietress of The Prickly Pinny Dress Shoppe

Mrs. Erina Pinnington presides over The Prickly Pinny Dress Shoppe, where ribbons are plentiful, hats are properly trimmed, and no Bramblewick outfit leaves the shop without her expert approval.

She has a marvelous eye for color, fabric, and the little finishing touches that can turn an ordinary frock into something fit for a woodland celebration. Erina is always happy to offer fashion advice—whether it was requested or not.

There is only one tiny complication in the life of Bramblewick’s best-dressed hedgehog: delicate fabrics and prickles are not natural friends. Fortunately, Erina considers a snagged ribbon merely another opportunity to accessorize.

Lucien Ebonwing, Bramblewick’s brown long-eared bat lantern-lighter

Lucien Ebonwing

Bramblewick’s Lantern-Lighter

As evening settles over Bramblewick, Lucien Ebonwing makes his rounds with lighting pole in paw, coaxing a warm golden glow from every lantern along the village streets.

He is meticulous about the job. A dark corner, a sputtering wick, or a lamp that has gone out will have Lucien hurrying over before anyone else has even noticed.

The villagers naturally assume such devotion comes from a love of nighttime. Lucien has never felt the need to explain that his enthusiasm for lanterns has rather more to do with keeping the darkness at a very comfortable distance.

Mr. Tamias Caching

Bramblewick’s Village Grocer

Mr. Tamias Caching keeps Bramblewick’s village market stocked with fresh produce, pantry staples, baked goods, and the little everyday things his neighbors suddenly remember they need.

Tamias has a remarkable memory for his customers. He knows which apples disappear first, who prefers extra blueberries, and which cottage might appreciate a little something tucked into the grocery bag.

And if the bags are particularly heavy, Tamias is quite likely to carry them to your door himself. He calls it good service. Bramblewick simply calls it Tamias.

Mr. Aonyx Coiffeur, Bramblewick’s otter barber

Mr. Aonyx Coiffeur

Bramblewick’s Barber

Mr. Aonyx Coiffeur keeps Bramblewick looking neatly trimmed from whisker-tip to tail. His little barbershop is a cheerful place for a tidy-up, a bit of conversation, and—according to Aonyx—perhaps just one more snip.

He remembers his customers remarkably well, from their favorite haircut to the garden they mentioned months ago, and nobody settles into his green barber chair without being made to feel like the most important resident in the village.

Aonyx’s haircuts are excellent. Knowing when the haircut is finished is another matter. If he tilts his head, raises the scissors, and murmurs, “Just one little bit…” you may want to keep very still.

Dorothy “Dot” Zomo

Bramblewick’s Bunny Hop Diner Waitress

Dorothy “Dot” Zomo keeps the Bunny Hop Diner moving almost as fast as she does. With a tray in each paw and roller skates beneath her feet, she can deliver a milkshake, remember your favorite booth, and greet the next customer without missing a beat.

Dot knows nearly everyone’s usual order, keeps an ear on the jukebox, and has a way of making even an ordinary lunch feel like part of the show.

Her philosophy is simple: life’s too short to sit still. Around Dot, that is less a saying than a warning to keep your toes clear of the aisle.

Virginia Cervine, Bramblewick’s deer florist at Willow Blossom Flowers

Virginia Cervine

Proprietress of Willow Blossom Flowers

Virginia Cervine fills Willow Blossom Flowers with armfuls of color, from cheerful daisies and delicate violets to bouquets tied up with ribbons for Bramblewick’s special occasions.

She has a gentle eye for arranging just the right flowers for every neighbor, whether someone needs a celebration bouquet, a thoughtful little posy, or simply something bright for the kitchen table.

Virginia does have one small occupational hazard: every now and then, a particularly tempting blossom reminds her that she is still a deer. This is why her shop contains the very important reminder, “Not all flowers are snacks.”

Blarina Harridan

Beekeeper of Meadowbrook Apiary

Blarina Harridan tends Meadowbrook Apiary with the steady confidence of someone who considers several thousand buzzing employees perfectly manageable—as long as everyone follows the rules.

She keeps her hives orderly, her honey jars properly labeled, and plenty of bee-friendly flowers growing nearby. Blarina may be tiny, but very little escapes her notice, especially around her beloved bees.

Some Bramblewick residents approach the apiary rather cautiously. Blarina finds this unnecessary. The bees, after all, know how to behave.

Reverend Furo Hoblet, minister of Bramblewick Chapel

Reverend Furo Hoblet

Minister of Bramblewick Chapel

Reverend Furo Hoblet welcomes Bramblewick’s neighbors through the chapel doors with a warm smile, a listening ear, and a firm belief that kindness is never wasted.

He is especially fond of reminding folks that mistakes do not have to become permanent addresses. Forgiveness, fresh starts, and helping someone find their way again matter a great deal to Reverend Hoblet.

Perhaps that is because he understands second chances a little better than most. If you ask about his younger days, however, he may suddenly remember that the chapel bell needs polishing.

Drake Anatidae

Lifeguard of the Woodland Swimming Hole

Drake Anatidae keeps a watchful eye over Bramblewick’s Woodland Swimming Hole, where sunny afternoons bring out swimmers, floaters, splashers, and at least one resident who has forgotten where the shallow end begins.

Drake takes water safety very seriously. He knows every rule, checks every swimmer, and keeps his whistle ready for anything that looks even slightly suspicious.

Fortunately, beneath all that official lifeguard seriousness is a good-hearted duck who wants everyone to have a wonderful day. Just remember: be safe, be kind—and under no circumstances feed the lifeguard.

Mortimer Graves, Bramblewick’s vulture funeral director and undertaker

Mortimer Graves

Funeral Director & Undertaker

Mortimer Graves keeps a quiet establishment at the end of Bramblewick Lane, where every detail is handled with dignity, patience, and an exceptionally steady hand.

Despite his rather solemn profession—and the fact that being a vulture occasionally gives new visitors the wrong impression—Mortimer is one of Bramblewick’s gentlest residents. When a family needs him, he never rushes, never fusses, and never leaves them to face a difficult day alone.

He also possesses a remarkably dry sense of humor. Ask whether business has been quiet and Mortimer may glance around the empty room and say, “Dead quiet.” Then he will calmly return to his tea as though nothing happened.
